An extensive 60-day journey through Australia has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a pause. The liner departed without her and went back several hours later after the personnel realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt located her person the next day.

Officials are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and personnel on the ship were notified that the remainder of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Master" preventing any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

Sequence of Events

The vessel initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Guests on board - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the expedition - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and saddened that the ship left the island after an scheduled excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her parent as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a walking group.

"According to scant information we have been provided, it seems that there was a breakdown of care and basic judgment," she said.

She continued that she desired the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have undertaken that might have protected Mother's life".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and she took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"She was asked her to go back, alone. Then the vessel sailed away, apparently without performing a roll call.

"During some point in that chain of events, or shortly after, she died, alone."

Operator Reaction

Via official communication, the Head confirmed that the operator was "working closely with officials to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had offered its total backing to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Procedures

The ship accommodates up to one hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty staff, according to corporate information. It was specifically designed to enter distant regions of Australia's coastline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Events like this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have procedures to document which individuals are getting on or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] on the ship just isn't an possibility," an authority commented.

Shipping companies regard these processes with great importance and have "clever tech in place to prevent such events from occurring," the authority continued.
