It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the record chasers, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batters to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this knock came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and after that Healy was underway.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was removed Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this triumph following win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

However although she later admitted those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as leader.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
