Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
